An Extraordinary Event
Obama on Aug. 7 wrapped an historic three-day U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit attended by heads of state and other officials from nearly 50 African nations as well as American lawmakers and government and corporate leaders. "Africa must know that they will always have a strong and reliable partner in the United States of America," Obama said at a news conference marking the end of what he called "an extraordinary event." The summit generated $37 billion in public and private investment in the continent to create a “new peace-keeping rapid response project” to help Africa defuse conflicts and other initiatives. The president also said the summit will be a reoccuring event.
