Former Miami Heat star Alonzo Mourning was charged with a misdemeanor related to a traffic accident last week in Miami Beach.

Mourning, who has retired from basketball, must now appear in court to answer to second-degree misdemeanor charges for leaving the scene of the accident and for not providing his contact and insurance information.

According to reports, Mourning was unable to avoid hitting a car that was already involved in a wreck on July 17. Mourning stopped but didn’t remain at the scene. He did return 40 minutes later, however.

At least one of the drivers has already filed a civil suit against Mourning, seeking unspecified damages.
