Tiger Woods Open to Playing More Tournaments

Tiger Woods wants on the President’s Cup team.

Team captain Fred Couples would gladly use one of his two personal picks to select Woods, despite his struggles, for the late November competition in Australia. There is just one catch.

Couples would like to see Woods compete more between now and then. After failing to qualify for the PGA’s FedEx Cup playoffs, which start this week, Woods had said he would shut it down until the Australian Open in November.

But on his website this week Woods said he might consider adding a tournament during the Fall Series. It would start in Las Vegas on Sept. 29, followed by the Frys.com in San Martin, California, then the series heads the McGladrey Classic in St. Simons Island, Georgia. And then end with the Disney tournament in late October.

“Right now, I’m looking at my options,” Woods said in an Associated Press story.

Playing seems to be his only option if he wants to be part of the prestigious President’s Cup team. Otherwise Woods’ season is over until November when he can begin playing in PGA events again.

“I’ve had some conversations with U.S. captain Fred Couples, and we’ll see how it goes,” Woods said. “Of course, I want to be on the team. It’s always fun to play for your country, and we did pretty well two years ago in San Francisco. I’m just going to keep practicing and try to get better. It’s Freddie’s call, and he can make any choice he wants.”
