New England Patriots Prevail in Explosive MNF Opener

Patriots QB Tom Brady threw for a franchise record 517 yards.

The NFL is off to one of its more thrilling starts in recent memory.

That was no more evident than the season-premiere of Monday night football, in which the New England Patriots pulled out an exciting 38-24 win over rival Miami.  The two explosive offenses combined 906 net yards on the night as both teams moved the ball up and down the field.

But the night belonged to Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who threw for a team-record 517 yards as the Patriots’ no-huddle offense kept the Dolphins on their heels all night.  Brady became just the 11th NFL quarterback to throw for 500 or more yards in a game.

It overshadowed an otherwise outstanding night for Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne, who threw for a career-high 416 yards.

“They made some plays on us,” Brady said. “We made a few more than them.”
