Published September 21, 2011

Tennis superstar Serena Williams continues to use her celebrity for great causes.

Williams, whose family has been big on giving back and philanthropy, was appointed UNICEF’s newest international Goodwill Ambassador on Tuesday, she announced on her Twitter page. She first teamed up with UNICEF in 2006, traveling to Ghana for the country’s biggest health campaign. Williams, along with other volunteer workers, helped immunize children against childhood diseases and also gave out free mosquito bed-nets to help prevent the spread of malaria.

In this current role, Williams will help the United Nation’s mission to prove quality education to at-risk children.
