Livingstone College and Biddle College played the first Black College Intercollegiate football game in North Carolina.
Biddle won the game 5-0 after the teams played two 45-minute halves on Livingstone's front lawn.
Livingstone College is a private, historically Black, four-year college in Salisbury, North Carolina; affiliated with the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.
Biddle College began in 1867 in Charlotte, North Carolina, when Mrs. Mary D. Biddle donated $1,400 to the school. It was later renamed Johnson C. Smith University and is now a private, co-ed, four-year research university.
