This past May, Michael Sam became the first publicly gay player to be drafted by an NFL team, with the St. Louis Rams selecting him in the seventh round of the 2014 draft.
In a revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey, however, Sam says that there are currently gay players in the NFL and that they've reached out to him.
"Gay men in the NFL reached out to you and called you?" Winfrey asks, as part of the released trailer of the 90-minute documentary/interview, which is set to air on her OWN network on Sunday night.
Sam says "yes" repeatedly, while nodding his head.
Sam failed to make the final cut of the Rams squad, as the franchise released him in late August. Although the Dallas Cowboys added the defensive end to their practice squad days later in early September, they too wound up releasing him.
As part of the trailer of his interview with Winfrey, the media mogul also asks Sam, "Do you think now that the reason why you're not with a team is because you weren't good enough to play or because you're gay?"
Although the trailer doesn't reveal Sam's answer to the question, in a recent encounter with TMZ Sports at LAX airport, he implied that talent is not the reason he isn't on a pro football roster.
