Report: Stephen Curry to Be Named NBA MVP
Stephen Curry will be named NBA MVP as early as Monday, sources are telling ESPN.
If this report is true, it means the Golden State Warriors' All-Star point guard beat out Houston Rockets' James Harden, Oklahoma City Thunder's Russell Westbrook, Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James and New Orleans Pelicans' Anthony Davis in the MVP race.
In particular, Westbrook led the league in scoring with 28.1 points per game and Harden (27.4 ppg) carried the Rockets without Dwight Howard for a long stretch of this 2014-15 season, but Curry leading the Warriors to a franchise-record 67-win season and averaging 23.8 points, 7.7 assists, 4.3 rebounds and two steals per game was too much to overlook.
"I honestly have no idea. It's obviously just...in the middle of a playoff series, it's hard to kind of separate yourself with other things that may or may not happen," Curry told ESPN of the prospect of winning MVP after leading the Warriors to a 101-86 Game 1 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday night.
"Obviously I know what the situation is, and just trying to focus on the game," he added. "And if I get a call [Monday], I'll definitely be happy and there will be a lot of people that can be proud of that moment, as well, and we'll enjoy it. But right now, I'm happy we won Game 1. I'll wake up tomorrow a fresh new day and we'll see what happens."
