Caitlyn Jenner to Receive Arthur Ashe Award for Courage at ESPYs

Athlete formerly known as Bruce Jenner to be honored next month.

Caitlyn Jenner, formerly Bruce Jenner, made a splashy debut on the cover ofVanity Fair on Monday, accumulating a record one-million-plus Twitter followers in four hours.

But the recognition will go well past the social media stream. Multiple media outlets are reporting that Jenner will make her first major public appearance as Caitlyn at the ESPYs on July 15 at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, where she'll be honored with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. Jenner will also reportedly be joined by her children and grandchildren, according to the Los Angeles Times

In a statement to the LA Times, ESPN.com said the Arthur Ashe Courage Award is for someone "possessing strength in the face of adversity, courage in the face of peril and the willingness to stand up for their beliefs no matter what the cost."

ESPN isn't the only major recognition that Jenner is receiving.

President Obama sent the following tweet to Jenner on Monday: "It takes courage to share your story."

Well before transitioning to Caitlyn, Bruce was one of the most popular athletes in the world. He won a gold medal in the decathlon at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
