New Orleans Pelicans Make Anthony Davis NBA's Richest Player

Superstar agrees to five-year, $145 million extension.

You don't want to get cute with the contract of one of the NBA's most dominant young superstars.

That's why the New Orleans Pelicans reached an agreement with Anthony Davis for a five-year extension worth an estimated $145 million just minutes past the beginning of NBA free agency on Wednesday, as reported by ESPN. The extension will reportedly kick in at the start of the 2016-17 season and run through Davis's 28th birthday, making him the highest-paid NBA player.

Currently, the dominating center is 22 years old and coming off a 2014-15 season in which he averaged 24.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game, leading the Pelicans to an eighth seed in the playoffs.

An excited Davis took to his Twitter account early Wednesday morning to share the good news of his contract extension.

Aside from LeBron James, one could easily make the case for Davis being the most-dominant player in the NBA.

He's definitely the best big man and his play on both sides of the court make him the franchise player that the Pelicans rightfully made the league's richest.

"I just think he's one of those special players that comes along once every 25 or 30 years," new Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry told ESPN of Davis.

We couldn't agree more.
