Rockets Take Chance on Rehabbing Ty Lawson

Houston trades for point guard five days after DUI arrest.

He was arrested for his second DUI in seven months last Tuesday and has announced plans to check into rehab.

But that didn't stop the Houston Rockets from acquiring troubled point guard Ty Lawson via a trade with the Denver Nuggets on Sunday.

According to ESPN, the Rockets sent a package of forward Kostas Papanikolaou, guards Pablo Prigioni and Nick Johnson and center Joey Dorsey with a future first-round pick to Denver for Lawson and a 2017 second-round draft selection.

Although Lawson has had his troubles off the court, there's no doubting his ability on it. The 27-year-old point guard averaged 15.2 points and 9.6 assists per game for the lowly Nuggets last season. Thus, it seems like, the Rockets couldn't resist rolling the dice on pairing him in the same backcourt as All-Star shooting guard James Harden.

The trade likely won't be formally finalized until after Monday. Lawson's next court appearance for his DUI in Denver is set for August 20.
