Aldon Smith just can't seem to stay out of trouble and his latest arrest has cost him his spot on the San Francisco 49ers.

The franchise cut the 25-year-old linebacker after police in Santa Clara, California, told ESPN that he was arrested Thursday night on charges of hit and run, driving under the influence and vandalism.

"This organization has tried very hard to help Aldon fight his issues," the 49ers said in a press release statement, as reported by ESPN. "Although he is no longer a member of this team, our support and concern for him will continue."

Added first-year 49ers coach Jim Tomsula, "It's a sad day. We're not worried about football. This has nothing to do with football. If one person out there reads this and you're struggling, get help. Go get it. You're worth it. We value every human being. Get the help. You don't have to walk alone. Find it. It's there. Although Aldon will not be playing football here, he will be supported. He will not be alone."

Smith, who was released from jail Friday after posting $26,000 bond, vows that he wasn't driving under the influence.

“The people who are faithful remain faithful,” Smith told KGO in San Francisco, as reported by ProFootballTalk. “Simple as this: Justice will be served, the truth will come out, there’s no DUI. I’m sorry for anybody I let down, I’m sorry for the way this whole thing. I need to speak and I want everybody to understand, this wasn’t a DUI, the situation I had could have been handled differently and I apologize for everybody I did let down and I apologize for how it all played out. But as far as everything is concerned, it will work out the way it’s supposed to work out. That’s all.”

This marks Smith's third arrest on suspicion of DUI since being a first-round selection in the 2011 NFL Draft. Smith was first arrested and charged with DUI in January 2012, with the charges lowered to reckless driving. That same year, in June, Smith was hit with felony weapons charges stemming from a party, during which shots were fired and the linebacker was reportedly stabbed. But those weapons charges were reduced as well.

In September 2013, Smith was arrested and charged with DUI again following a car accident. He wound up missing five games that season. In April 2014, Smith was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport after allegedly telling a TSA agent that he had a bomb. He ended up being suspended for nine games last season for violating the NFL's personal conduct and substance-abuse policies and playing seven games upon his return.

Oddly enough, 49ers general manager Trent Baalke just told ESPN on Tuesday that Smith had matured and that the franchise wanted to work toward re-signing him.
