Plaxico Burress Responds to Cris Carter's 'Fall Guy' Advice
If only Plaxico Burress had a "fall guy" during his November 2008 incident, in which he accidentally shot himself in the leg inside a New York City nightclub and wound up serving 20 months in prison.
That's the joke the retired NFL receiver made Monday night in clear reference to Hall of Famer Cris Carter's bad advice at the NFL's 2014 Rookie Symposium, where he told players to pinpoint a "fall guy" to take the blame in the event they get in trouble. As video footage surfaced from the Symposium, Carter apologized for his comments Sunday.
That didn't stop Burress from getting his joke in.
But after making his quip, Burress did delve deeper on a more serious note, condemning Carter and especially the NFL for allowing that ideology to be expressed to rookies last year.
Burress ended his rant re-tweeting the latter comment two more times to add more emphasis.
In addition to Carter admitting that he gave bad advice, the NFL called his comments "unfortunate and inappropriate" and ESPN — where Carter serves as an NFL analyst — made it clear that his remarks reflect his own opinion and not those of the company.
