Tom Brady Beats NFL in Court, Four-Game Ban Lifted

Judge nullifies league's Deflategate suspension.

Tom Brady fought the NFL over his Deflategate suspension... and won.

The Super Bowl-winning New England Patriots' quarterback just defeated the league in his Deflategate court case Thursday, according to ESPN, and a judge has nullified the league's four-game suspension on him.

This clears the way for Brady to play Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers next Thursday.

The breaking news marks a huge victory for Brady and a crushing blow for the NFL. Remember, league commissioner Roger Goodell met with the star quarterback and heard his appeal in late July, deciding to uphold his four-game suspension.

Upon hearing Thursday's news, Goodell said the league will appeal via appelate court.

"We are grateful to Judge [Richard] Berman for hearing this matter, but respectfully disagree with today's decision," Goodell said in a statement to the media. "We will appeal today's ruling in order to uphold the collectively bargained responsibility to protect the integrity of the game. The commissioner's responsibility to secure the competitive fairness of our game is a paramount principle, and the league and our 32 clubs will continue to pursue a path to that end. While the legal phase of this process continues, we look forward to focusing on football and the opening of the regular season."
