Update: Is Serena Williams Still In Her Feelings Over U.S. Open Loss?

You won't see the tennis star in action for the rest of the season.

UPDATE: Serena Williams has announced that she'll skip the season-ending WTA Finals and China Open tournaments to fully heal her injuries after her U.S. Open loss earlier this month.

"It's no secret I've played injured most of the year — whether it was my elbow, my knee, or, in the final moments after a certain match in Flushing, my heart," Williams was quoted on the China Open website, as reported by ESPN. "This is a very difficult decision, but one ultimately made because of the love of the game."

PREVIOUS: Serena Williams is still reeling from being upset in her U.S. Open match against No. 43 Roberta Vinci three weeks ago.

That's what her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, is telling espnW, adding that with no Grand Slam tournaments left this year, Williams might want to take the rest of the season off.

"When she lost in Toronto [in August], she was very disappointed, but we went back to practice the morning after because she wanted to win the US Open," Mouratoglou told espnW. "But after this year and the three Grand Slams [she won in 2015], the question is how high her motivation is to play those tournaments. I don't think she should play if the motivation is not really high."

He added: "Because she lost [the semifinal] match, she says to me her season is not good. But I like that because it's just about having high expectations and that's what champions have and I think the same way."
With a U.S. Open win, Williams would have matched Steffi Graf's mark for 22 Grand Slam women's single titles and only been two away from reaching Margaret Court's all-time mark of 24 for most Grand Slam tournament victories in women's tennis history.

Despite her shortcoming at the Open, Williams has already clinched a year-end No. 1 world ranking. Mouratoglu thinks it may be best to call it a year and return fresh next year.

"I don't doubt she will have the motivation to win more Grand Slams and reach records," Mouratoglou said. "I'm just thinking about the end of the season, and I don't know how high the motivation is, and I don't think she should go play competitions if her motivation is not high enough."

Still, three out of four Grand Slam wins for the year isn't too shabby.
