From LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul calling on athletes to spark change to Kobe Bryant receiving an Icon award, the 2016 ESPYS were filled with great moments Wednesday night. Here, BET.com takes a look at the best from the annual award show.
Powerful, poignant and NEEDED. That's the best way to describe NBA superstars and friends, King James, D. Wade, Melo and CP3 open up the ESPYS by calling on their fellow athletes to take a stand and help reverse this rash of police-related murders. #BlackLivesMatter.
One touching moment led to another with the family of Zaevion Dobson, including his mom, accepting the Arthur Ashe Courage Award on his behalf. Dobson, 15, was killed last December, when shielding three girls from gunfire.
A lighthearted moment of the ESPYS came before the actual show even began, when WWE Superstar, The Big Show, approached Shaquille O'Neal on the red carpet, reportedly challenging him to a match at next year's WrestleMania. Remember, these two have history in the ring.
We already knew that Kobe Bryant was a legend. On Wednesday night, the ESPYS put it in stone, bestowing its Icon Award to the Black Mamba. Check out the five-time NBA champion's speech. All that's left now is an imminent Hall of Fame induction.
Away from the serious tone in which he set off the show, King James certainly had fun trolling a few of his teammates during the Cleveland Cavaliers' acceptance speech for the Best Team award.
D. Wade then presented LeBron with the award for Best Male Athlete to which the King kept his speech short and to the point.
There wasn't a dry eye in the house at the Microsoft Theater in downtown L.A., when everyone's favorite sideline reporter, Craig Sager, accepted the Jimmy V Perseverance Award for his continued fight against cancer. Pretty dope that vice president Joe Biden presented him with the honor, too.
