Lies You Tell? Kevin Durant Has Strong Words for Russell Westbrook and OKC

Here's what KD says he told his former teammate.

Three weeks later, Kevin Durant continues having to answer questions about leaving Oklahoma City to sign with the Golden State Warriors.

And although KD seems unfazed by the backlash, he felt the need to set the record straight about one story.

On Thursday, Durant refuted an ESPN report, denying that he informed former teammate Russell Westbrook that he would be re-signing with the Thunder, the way ESPN's True Hoop podcast said he did.

“It’s false,” Durant told The Vertical about the ESPN report. “I didn’t say that — words about me telling Russell or [Thunder forward] Nick [Collison] that I would stay or leave never came out of my mouth. We met as teammates, but no promises came out of it. In this day and age, I can’t control anything people claim out there. Someone can go out and say something random right now, and people will believe it."

He added, “I never told Russell or Nick [Collison], ‘All right, guys, I’m coming back to the Thunder’ — and then a week later, I decide not to. Never happened. I don’t operate like that. I heard people say that story, but it’s not the truth.”

KD's strong words came as a response to ESPN.com reporter Royce Young telling the True Hoop podcast that the 2014 NBA MVP and seven-time All-Star told Russ and others in the Thunder organization that he'd be back for the 2016-17 season just weeks prior to making the shocking decision to leave OKC on July 4.

"Three weeks ago, Kevin Durant's sitting there at dinner, telling him, 'Hey, I'm coming back, man. Don't worry about it,'" Young said about what KD allegedly told Russ. "And now, Russell Westbrook has been kind of thrown into this in having to decide his future a summer earlier than expected."

Lies you tell, KD? Or is the easy money sniper telling the truth?
