Watch: Late Marlins Pitcher Jose Fernandez Got a Heartbreaking Tribute Last Night

There wasn't a dry eye in the house in Miami.

There wasn't a dry eye in sight.

Just over a day after Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez was killed in a tragic boating accident early Sunday morning, the team held an emotional on-field tribute to their fallen 24-year-old superstar.

Before their home game against the New York Mets on Monday night, the Marlins organization announced that it was retiring Fernandez's No. 16.

For the game itself, every Marlins player and coach donned Fernandez's No. 16 jersey as well.

What came next, though, truly took emotions to another level, leaving practically the entire Marlins' dugout and many more baseball fans watching at home in tears.

Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon approached the plate as the game's leadoff hitter and crushed a towering home run to right field — which was amazingly enough his first homer of the entire 2016 season.

As he rounded the bases with the home crowd cheering him on, Gordon began crying, certainly with the loss of Fernandez weighing heavy on his heart and mind.

After the Marlins held on to win, 7-3, Gordon called hitting the home run for Fernandez "the best moment of my life."

After the game, the entire Marlins' squad also poured onto the field for a gut-wrenching final goodbye to their fallen teammate.

What a truly heartbreaking and unforgettable tribute for Fernandez.
