Well, it was never quite smooth sailing.
The Cleveland Cavaliers fired head coach David Blatt on Friday, bringing an abrupt end to his turbulent reign before he could finish his second year in the NBA, ESPN is reporting.
Blatt helped lead the Cavs to the NBA Finals last season and had Cleveland atop of the Eastern Conference standings with a 30-11 record, but the team miserably lost to the Golden State Warriors by 34 points this past Monday in a rematch of the Finals. That and it never truly felt like Blatt had full control of the team.
ESPN is reporting that LeBron James was not consulted about the decision and learned of the team's move Friday. The Cavs associate head coach Tyronn Lue will become the team's new head coach.
Friday's announcement reportedly came amidst growing unrest in Cleveland's locker room about Blatt's knowledge of the NBA and the ability to efficiently lead them. ESPN is additionally reporting that apparently the Cavs wanted to make a move after the first time the team lost to the Warriors this season, back on Christmas Day.
