People Are Ripping Stephen A. Smith for Saying Colin Kaepernick Is Jobless Due to 'The Drama Around the National Anthem'

The ESPN personality is being called everything from a "coon" to to people saying he's in a "sunken place."

Just what is Stephen A. Smith's issue with Colin Kaepernick?

Earlier this week on ESPN's First Take, the longtime sports personality blasted the quarterback, essentially saying that he's jobless because NFL teams don't want to deal with "this problem," referring to the attention Kaepernick generated for kneeling during the national anthem before games last season.

"The last three years, he has been mediocre to bad to even worse than bad. If it hadn't been for the whole drama issue with the kneeling during the national anthem, chances are he would have gotten a look, he would have gotten a call right now," Smith said on the show Monday. "So, I don't think there's any question in my mind that there are people that are saying, 'We don't want to deal with this problem.'"

Smith added, "My response is you kind of knew that when you took the position that you took. You knew that you were going to alienate at least half of our society by doing so. You accepted that — I respect that. I don't respect how he then piggybacked off of that and then announced to the world that, 'I don't vote.'"

While Smith acknowledged Kaepernick's several charitable donations, he proceeded to once again call the quarterback a hypocrite for not voting. And Smith added that by Kaepernick recently announcing that he'll stand for the national anthem during this upcoming season, he opened himself up to critics questioning his authenticity and made it look like he changed his stance just to prolong his NFL career.

Got all that? Well, social media sure did.

Twitter has been roasting Stephen A. for his Kaepernick criticism all week, labeling the sports personality as a "coon" and telling him he's in a "sunken place."

Here's Smith's full thoughts on Kaepernick followed by some of the ways people ripped him for them.
