Ex-ESPN Reporter Britt McHenry Gets Slammed for Criticizing Colin Kaepernick's 4th of July Trip to Ghana

"A lifetime of privilege will do that to you."

Ex-ESPN reporter Britt McHenry feels like her whiteness is being threatened.

After watching Colin Kaepernick’s 4th of July video, which recaps highlights of his trip to Ghana, she lost her hoots because God forbid he make a trip to the land of his ancestors. He captioned his video, “How can we truly celebrate independence on a day that intentionally robbed our ancestors of theirs? To find my independence I went home.”

  • On her blog, which curiously lists her as still a reporter for ESPN even though she isn’t, McHenry makes a very false equivocation of the ex-49er quarterback’s message and his, um, talent of the football field.

“My admiration will always go towards the men and women who have walked away from their loved ones, through fields of IEDs, and into the dangerous unknown,” she wrote. “It will never go to the athlete who takes a knee after losing his starting job.”

McHenry then went after Colin for not voting in the last presidential election.

“While you focus on your philanthropic efforts, which are admirable, perhaps you can also employ that same effort to go into a voting booth,” she wrote. “If you're going to continually complain about the perceived slights and rights you don't have, perhaps take the right you do have and back it up.”

    *Face palm*

Somebody’s white privilege is showing heavy. And Twitter was ready to slam McHenry for it.

“On July 4th 1776 black people were still slaves, I don't celebrate it either,” someone replied. “Criticizing this country. Peaceful protest. Standing up 4 ideals even when they are unpopular. That is true patriotism. Sad you don't see it,” another wrote.

Oh, and also, the most epic sidenote ever brings this story all the way into bizarro world. After Britt McHenry was fired from ESPN, she claimed that she was cut for being “openly conservative.” Hmm, someone losing their job because of their beliefs? Isn’t that what she was taunting Kaep…

Nevermind. We’re melting from the irony right now, so just read her full post here and peep Colin Kaepernick’s Ghana trip video and the reaction to McHenry’s blog post below.
