BUCKLAND, Mass. (AP) — A senior writer for ESPN has been arrested in Massachusetts on charges including domestic assault and resisting arrest.

State police say 42-year-old Howard Bryant was arrested in front of a pizza parlor Saturday in Buckland in western Massachusetts. Witnesses told police they saw a man choking and pinning a woman against a parked car.

Police say Bryant struck a state trooper in the chest with his elbow. He was freed on $5,000 bail and is being arraigned Monday in Greenfield District Court. Bryant lives in nearby Ashfield.

Police did not disclose the woman's relationship to Bryant. The writer did not immediately respond to an e-mail or telephone message seeking comment.

ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz says the company is gathering information.
