The September 2002 fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Fernando Vargas was aptly dubbed "Bad Blood." The two Mexican-American fighters from Southern California could have become friends, but chose to be enemies instead. The latter was on full display at their press conference leading into the bout when Vargas hurled every insult he could think of at De La Hoya, including calling him "gay" and saying that the "Golden Boy" has been dodging him for years. Vargas' verbal onslaught couldn't match his performance in the ring, though, as De La Hoya punished his foe, picking up the emotionally-charged win.
