Women in Sports Journalism

Pam Oliver, Cari Champion, Lisa Salters and others.

Pam Oliver - Pam Oliver has spent the last 19 years working for Fox Sports, 12 as an NFL sideline reporter. Not quite, anymore, though. On Monday, the New York Daily News reported that Fox has replaced Oliver with Erin Andrews, relegating the veteran to the No. 2 team with Kevin Burkhardt and John Lynch, in what will be her final year on an NFL sideline. Oliver signed a multi-year agreement with Fox to work on off-the-field pieces. Even though you're not in that No. 1 spot, we still love you, Pam, and can't wait to check out your feature reports. Fresh off this news, we compiled a list of the ladies who help make watching sports a pleasure. (Photo: Maddie Meyer/Getty Images)

Lisa Salters - Since 2000, Lisa Salter has reported on everything for ESPN, from the FIFA World Cup to the NBA Finals and Monday Night Football as the solo sideline reporter. Before ever joining the Worldwide Leader in Sports, Salters had her reporting chops high, covering the O.J. Simpson murder case for ABC. Lisa, Lisa!(Photo: Jeff Golden/Getty Images)

Cari Champion - Let's give it up for Cari Champion. Not only does she have to deal with two of the most opinionated loudmouths in sports — Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless — every morning on ESPN 2's First Take, but she actually manages to get a word in every now and then. That's saying a lot with those two! Props, Cari!(Photo: Gustavo Caballero/Getty Images for Time Warner Cable)

Robin Roberts - Way before Robin Roberts was ever a co-anchor on Good Morning America, she was a sportscaster for ESPN for a whopping 15 years. In 2012, she was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame for her contributions to the sport through her broadcasting. Having watched her struggle and endure bouts with breast cancer and myelodysplatic syndrome (MDS), a disease of the bone marrow, only makes us appreciate her more. Great sports journalist...even greater person.  (Photo: ESPN)

Sage Steele - Calm, cool, composed and to the point. That's Sage Steele in a nutshell working ESPN's NBA Countdown desk alongside Jalen Rose and Bill Simmons with command and ease. We see you, Sage.(Photo by Joe Scarnici/Getty Images)

Josina Anderson - ESPN's Josina Anderson is never afraid to throw herself into the news she's covering to deliver a thorough report. Case in point, when LeBron James announced his shocking return to the Cavaliers this past Friday, Anderson was getting frenzied fan reaction to the news in Cleveland. Surrounded by a throng of rabid Cavs fans, an unwavering Anderson proceeded to give her report, while getting some great live reaction from people in Cleveland. Just the way a great reporter works in the field. Show 'em how it's done, Josina!(Photo: Jerome Davis/LE/Splash)

Karyn Bryant - Karyn Bryant is as versatile as the MMA fighters she covers on UFC Tonight on Fox Sports 1. Watch the Boston native break down a upcoming UFC bout with ease via analysis, hard reporting and 1-on-1 interviews. It's likely her subjects will tap out way before she ever does. (Photo: PNP / WENN)
