Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Perhaps the most important Civil Rights leader in the history of the United States was Martin Luther King Jr. He stood for equality by way of non-violence and sacrificed his freedom, safety and eventually his life so that people of color could live more comfortably and have more opportunities to succeed in society. Without him standing up for his beliefs, history would be different today.
