Meshell Ndegeocello Shakes Up Hip-Hop - Years before it became trendy, neo-soul founding member and singer-songwriter Meshell Ndegeocello came out as bisexual, and even had a relationship with feminist author Rebecca Walker. While Frank Ocean is considered the first male in R&B/hip-hop to “come out” to the public, Ndegeocello is dubbed as the first ever. However, while she stands in solidarity for LGBT rights, she prefers to focus most exclusively on her music. This decision did not mean that the artist had abandoned her LGBT-connection.
