The 2006 BET Awards kicked off with Damon Wayans bringing the funny on June 26 at the Shrine Theater. The show featured some of the hottest talent, including Prince, Chris Brown and Taraji P. Henson.
From Beyoncé and Jay-Z to Keyshia Cole and Ne-Yo, the stage was smoking after Prince, Stevie Wonder, Yolanda Adams, India.Arie and Chaka Khan performed together in honor of Chaka’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Jamie Foxx and Fantasia kept the excitement brewing with "DJ Play a Love Song," although Busta Rhymes practically destroyed the stage with his “Touch It (Remix)” collaborative performance.
It’s a good thing he left it intact, because Chris Brown needed it to accept his two awards, as did two-time Male Athlete of the Year winner LeBron James and Video of the Year winner Kanye West. Hustle & Flow’s Terrence Howard took home the Best Male Actor trophy and his costar in the film Taraji P. Henson for Best Female Actress.
Honored for his activism, voice and acting, Harry Belafonte received the Humanitarian Award. Belafonte has spent most of his life working to improve conditions in various countries in Africa, as well as rallying for HIV/AIDS awareness.
