The 2010 BET Awards added an extra dose of Hollywood star power to the mix with Queen Latifah as the host. The rapper, actress and singer got her sketch comedy parody on with performer T.I., Kanye West showed his “Power,” Alicia Keys belted out “No One” and Diddy Dirty Money kept the audience awake with "Hello, Good Morning."
Chris Brown gave an emotional and tearful tribute performance to Michael Jackson, where he was so overcome he could not finish singing “Man in the Mirror.” Patti LaBelle also loaned her pipes to sing “Purple Rain” during Prince’s Lifetime Achievement Award tribute, while Drake kept the “Fireworks” lit during his performance.
Back on her winning streak, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga picked up the Video of the Year Award for their collaborative hit “Video Phone.” Jay-Z and a visibly pregnant Alicia Keys were a shoe-in to win Best Collaboration for their New York City anthem “Empire State of Mind,” she also took home Best Female R&B Artist.
In the non-musical categories, LeBron James and Serena Williams won the Sportsman awards and Mo’Nique and Idris Elba snagged the acting awards. John Legend, who makes beautiful music as well as fights for the beautiful cause of eradicating hunger, took home the Humanitarian Award.
