Althea Gibson
Long before Venus and Serena Williams, Althea Gibson took the tennis world by storm during the 1950s. Gibson was the first black woman to compete on the women’s tennis tour and the first to win a Grand Slam title, winning the French Open singles and doubles championship in 1956.
