Abdi's Safe Haven

When war broke out between Mogadishu's Transitional Federal Government and insurgents in 1991, Dr. Abdi began housing, feeding and clothing her employees and friends. Word spread of Abdi's generosity and the safe haven that her land served as. She didn't turn a soul away, and now she houses over 90,000 refugees, who were displaced in the fighting. Her daughters, Dr. Deqo Mohamed and Dr. Amina Mohamed, who are also physicians, continue to support her in her philanthropic efforts.
