The Essence of Success
Hailing from a long line of entrepreneurs (four generations to be exact), Susan L. Taylor was managing her own beauty company (Nequai Cosmetics) when she joined the newly published Essence magazine in 1970 as a freelance fashion and beauty editor. A first of its kind, Essence broke ground as a publication that catered specifically to African-American women.
