2007 Katrina Speech Controversy

October 3, 2012

Instead of talking about what to expect in the first debate of the 2012 Election, Americans were discussing quotes dug up from a speech that Obama gave in 2007 at Hampton University. Check out some of the stories that had people talking about 2007 instead of 2012:

The “Exclusive” That Started it All:  Less than 24 hours before the first of three presidential debates Dailycaller.com, a conservative website founded by Tucker Carlson and former policy advisor to Vice President Dick Cheney head of staff Neil Patel, published a video of Barack Obama speaking at Hampton University in 2007.  The video was widely covered in 2007, but conservatives claim that the media skipped over certain parts.  What do you think?

Republicans Refuse to Let Us Forget Rev. Wright: FOX was quick to validate the video from 2007, and used it as an opportunity to bring Rev. Wright back into the conversation, “Wright reportedly attended the 2007 speech, and in the video obtained by the Daily Caller, Obama is heard calling Wright 'my pastor, the guy who puts up with me, counsels me, listens to my wife complain about me. He's a friend and a great leader. Not just in Chicago, but all across the country.'"

Conservative Coordination: CNN was quick to point out that the network reported on Obama’s Hampton University speech on-air and online in 2007, but it’s only back in the news today because the top conservative blogs seized on the opportunity to create a faux scandal.
