From Urban America to Corporate America

With the Funkmaster Flex brand name establishing itself throughout the country, Flex soon began a series of albums called 60 Minutes of Funk: The Mixtape. Modeled after his street released mixtapes that were frequently found at mom-and-pop record stores, the 60 Minutes of Funk series received widespread distribution at major music chains, introducing the concept of the mixtape to a market that would otherwise not have access to his street releases. In 1999, Flex linked up with DJ Big Kap to produce The Tunnel, a similarly modeled compilation named after the famed NYC nightclub at which Flex was known for spinning music.
