2gether: Pet Peeves

2gether: Pet Peeves

We asked our Facebook followers what bothers them the most about their significant other and we responded with this column.

We recently asked our Facebook friends what their pet peeve was about their significant other. We got some great responses, and though I was instructed to pick out one, I decided to pick out a few highlights and give a little analysis:

"When you clean up and he comes in and throws all of his gear all over the place."

—Toya

This is pure inconsiderateness. Fellas, if you are guilty of doing this, please fix it. If you're mother wouldn't stand for it, why would your significant other? Getting into a routine of picking up after yourself is key here. Your lover is not your maid.

"He snores when he sleeps. I think thats very rude."

—Marquita

This is one of those things that you can't help unless you coax him into undergoing some form of therapy. Truthfully, if it was bothering you before and it's still unfixable, you may need to reconsider the relationship.

"When he waits till the trash truck is coming down the street to take the trash out."

—Saniece

Is this really a pet peeve? Yes, taking the trash out the night before is a good habit, but seriously, out of all the things that bother you about the relationship, this is the most annoying? Here's our best advice: If you live in an area where the opposite side of the street has their trash taken out the same day, just tell him to walk to the other side and leave it by your neighbor's house.

The truth is, working relationships are all about compromise. If your partner's pet peeves bothered you early on and are still persistent, it's time to ask yourself whether it's worth spending the rest of your life with this individual. It's a loaded question, but to help you out, consider these particular points:

-Did these pet peeves always bother you?
-Are they apparent to your friends or family?
-Do they affect both of you during social gatherings?
-Would you consider it shallow to break up with this person over these pet peeves?

If you said yes to more than two of these questions you may want to re-examine the relationship. You're not compatible if only one side is happy.
