Lift Every Voice: Mathew Knowles and Marla Gibbs

Beyoncé's father and former manager talks about managing his daughters.

Posted: 04/15/2011 05:40 PM EDT

Start your Sunday mornings with BET's Christian talk show, Lift Every Voice. This week, we hear from these voices:

Mathew Knowles discusses his struggles fluctuating between father and manager. He gave up his corporate career based on his kids' passion and commitment. For years he managed both of his daughters, Beyoncé and Solange, and now he details the challenge it presented.

As former manager of the platinum-selling R&B group Destiny’s Child, Knowles produced or co-produced the group’s albums, as well as several of their individual projects. In 2003 he launched his World Music Entertainment label, managing artists such as Beyoncé, Michelle Williams, Kelly Rowland, Trin-i-tee 5:7, Sunshine Anderson and more.

Marla Gibbs talks about overcoming her health issues. She also discusses her early days on-camera, starring on the sitcoms The Jeffersons and 227.

Marla Gibbs reached international fame as Geroge Jefferson’s highly sarcastic maid Florence Johnson on the The Jeffersons. She co-wrote the theme song to her 1980s TV series, 227, and has made appearances on many African-American shows through the years, including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, The Hughleys, Martin and Chappelle’s Show.

Tune in this Sunday at 10 am/9c.
