New in Hip Hop: JGE Retro Releases New Mixtape, Transition Day
During the first season of Nellyville, we witnessed Nelly's nephew Lil' Shawn, a.k.a. Tab work hard to put out music worthy of his uncle's approval. That day has finally come with the release of JGE Retro's Transition Day!
Tab and childhood friend and fellow musician Shad — two young men unafraid to fully express themselves, think out of the box and be completely swaggy in all aspects of their lives and music — come together to form the group.
On the track "Warm It Up" they provide an old school Cali vibe with a sample similar to Dr. Dre's "Natural Born Killaz" and flow reminiscent of Kris Kross.
"I Could Neva" is a certified turn up classic with lyrics filled with bragaddocio: "I could neva push the car if the engine don't prowl / I could neva' be you (expletive) I'm the man around town / I could neva see a meal if my dogs don't eat." This song seemed to be a fan favorite as one of two tracks viewers voted on during the season. You'll see just how many fans liked the song during Nellyville: The Family Special tonight at 9P/8C.
"I Remember" is a song completely for the ladies; something you'd play at a house party and slow dance to with that special someone. The mixtape is rounded out by the track "Trust None," an ode to all of Tab's and Shad's day one friends.
