Cadet Perkins is a true survival story. He grew up in the rough East side of Baltimore city and had to survive the rough street life that goes with it. Although he lacks the “polish” of some of the other candidates, he is a true success story. His grittiness will serve as an excellent balance to some of the other stories. A few years ago, he decided he needed to take steps toward insuring a future for himself, saying “There is no retirement plan in the streets”. He enrolled in the ROTC program, where he intends to follow in his parent’s footsteps. In fact, he plans to beat his Mother to the rank of Major. It might just happen. After picking up boxing only two years ago, he has already won the Golden Gloves in his weight class, and was recently invited to the Olympic tryouts in Oregon. He is the true everyday man, and his story will add some much needed “texture” to our series. He is definitely ARMY STRONG.
