5. Jay Z Scores App Deal With Samsung (2013; $20 Million)

What's significant about this deal is that it marks one of the first times in which hip hop and technology have converged. The premise was that a million free digital copies of Jay Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail would be "given" (read: available for download) to those who owned a Samsung Galaxy device. Similar deals may have existed in the past, but for an artist of Jay Z's caliber, to align his music with a tech company is fairly new.
