The History of Camp Gid-D-Up

Turman's summer camp was started as a result of the L.A. Riots. "At this great table, Coretta Scott King finally turned to my wife, Joann, and me and asked, 'What do you think you can contribute to easing these tensions?' and I blurted out at that moment, 'Well we're going to start a summer camp,'" recalled Turman.
