In a Huffington Post article, It’s On Us Regional Adviser Samantha Franks wrote, "1 in 5 women and 1 in 16 men are sexually assaulted during their time in college." According to It’s On Us, the organization "is a campaign founded on the idea that ending sexual assault on college campuses requires everyone to make a personal commitment to do something, big or small, to change the culture of sexual assault."
BET Networks is proud to partner with It’s On Us, a campaign working to fundamentally shift the way we think and act about sexual assault on college campuses around the country. It’s on Us is a project of Civic Nation launched in partnership with the Obama White House. Over 90 other organizations partner with It’s on Us including Call to Men, the American Association of University Women, GLAAD, National Sexual Violence Resource Center and Snapchat among others. The Quad, a scripted series set on the campus of a fictional historically Black college and university named GAMU provides BET with a unique opportunity to engage with the African American community on campus sexual assault and to raise awareness on how to fight back.
"As we enter the 2016-17 school year, it’s on all of us to recognize that sex without consent is sexual assault. With more sexual assaults occurring during the back-to-school time than any other time period, the It’s On Us campaign is especially dedicated to working with students nationwide to raise awareness of this issue. We’re excited that such a diverse set of partners stand with us as we promote this important new PSA, and we remind students that consent can never be assumed," It's On Us states.
