Job Summary

The Senior Manager, Human Resources, will act as the primary HR partner for the Los Angeles based office of BET Networks. This professional will provide human resource management expertise and consultation to both executives and employees for the Los Angeles based BET Networks office. S/he will oversee a diverse workforce of executives, regular full-time employees, project-based employees, freelancers, and contractors. The Senior Manager will provide counsel and guidance to employees and managers on employee relations, performance management, employee benefits, salary administration, HRIS, diversity, labor relations, affirmative action and policies and practices.

 

Responsibilities

• Build and foster strong relationships with the business, working collaboratively with other parts of HR and the business across multiple locations.

• Coordinate human resources procedures to initiate and otherwise process various other employee benefits such as, but not limited to: 401(k), medical and life insurance.

• Provide mandatory training, government-mandated training, management and general employee training.

• Conduct formal investigations on matters involving employees’ claim of wrongful termination, ethics, harassment, discrimination, etc.
• Prepare documentation and reports on investigative activities and actions taken.
• Work with department head and the Legal Department to research and interpret employment laws, (FLSA, EEOC, etc) for application to specific employment relations situations.

• Assist in conducting internal investigations and recommend appropriate action to correct any employment relations issues.
• Responsible for maintaining current knowledge base of industry trends, practices, and mandatory federal requirements.

 

Qualifications

• Eight years of progressive HR Generalist experience, with competency in employee relations, compensation administration, and policy and procedure interpretation, including a strong knowledge of employment laws. Employee relations experience supporting a creative client population is preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Sound judgment, business acumen, influencing skills, and the experience, confidence, and stature to effectively address sensitive HR issues.
• Must be effective at working with and influencing management and have proven ability to maintain strong client relationships and function as a business partner with all levels of clients.

• Conflict resolution skills and abilities are a must.
• Must have knowledge in employment law, including but not limited to FLSA, FMLA, ADEA, Title VII, OSHA, ERISA and ADA.
• Possess analytical skills necessary to identify issues and recommend appropriate action.
• Coaching and effective problem solving skills are required.
• Experience with applicant management and HRIS applications preferred.
• Previous labor relations experience desirable.

• Operate with a bias toward action and a sense of urgency.
• Possess organizational and facilitation skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

 

Education

• BS/BA in Human Resources, Industrial Relations or a related field or equivalent relevant experience required.
