Adrienne Bailon Says She Knew Her Fiancé Was ‘The One’ After 6 Months

It’s OK if you and bae need more time to figure it out.

After dating for six months, The Real co-host Adrienne Bailon announced in August that she and gospel singer Israel Houghton were engaged

If that sounds a little quick, you’re not alone, but Bailon explained to Hollywood Today Live that she knew early on he was the one, given that they had been friends prior to dating.

“We were friends for three years before. And I think that makes a big difference. And being older, you kind of know what you want. I think when you’re younger, you have to date around, kind of see what you like, what you don’t. There’s different things, honestly, from different people that I’ve dated that I’m like, ‘I love this quality…don’t love this quality so much.’ So I’m going to be 33 this year. I know exactly what I wanted and he is everything I wanted and more. And we’ve been…he is my best friend. And I think that makes such a big difference,” the former 3LW singer stressed.

Bailon continued that they “never thought” they would end up together (which makes sense given she was engaged last year to someone else and Houghton was, at the time, married to his wife of 22 years).

“When you like somebody and you’re going into the relationship liking them, you have ulterior motives. It’s like, ‘I really want him to like me too.’ Well that wasn’t there. It was just like, ‘Oh hey, what’s up.’ And we’d hang out with a bunch of friends and I would say ridiculous things out of my mouth that I probably wouldn’t say if I really liked him. And he got to know the real me and I love that,” the 32-year-old said.

Bailon also dished about her magical proposal in Paris.

“We were vacationing in Europe. We had just gone to Greece and then we ended up coming back to Paris. And I was surprised with my parents showing up. And I didn’t know. There was some trickery going on. My parents being there was so special to me. They actually were celebrating twenty years of marriage. And I thought, originally, that we were just celebrating them and obviously when the surprise happened, I was super excited and super happy. So, I can’t wait,” she exclaimed.

We wish Bailon all the luck in the world and hope Houghton is truly her soul mate. But if you’re a little skeptical about taking things that fast in your own love life, that’s fine too. Everyone’s relationship is different, so just listen to your gut and don’t compare yourself to celebs and you and bae should be just fine.
