12 Years a Slave

Released in theatres nationwide on October 18, 2013, 12 Years a Slave is a historical drama based on the eponymous autobiography of Solomon Northup. The film, which won the 2014 Academy Award for Best Picture, details the story of Northup, a free man from Saratoga Springs, New York, who was sold into slavery and forced to work plantations in Louisiana for 12 years. Chiwetel Ejifor stars as the main character, alongside Lupito Nyong'o (who won the Best Actress Oscar), Brad Pitt, Quvenzhane Wallis and Alfre Woodard.
