Retired three-time Olympic champion track and field runner Gail Devers' career was almost over before it began after she was diagnosed in 1990 with Graves' disease. Devers would recover quickly, winning a silver medal at the World Championships the following year in the 100 m hurdles. During her running days, Devers was known to sport extremely long, highly decorated fingernails during her races.
