Ever since this Chicago-born songstress was voted off the third season of American Idol in 2004, she’s been on the fast-track to becoming an American icon. In 2005, Hudson’s incredibly soulful voice landed her a role in the film adaptation of the musical Dreamgirls, starring Beyoncé and Jamie Foxx.For her debut film performance as the fiery Effie, Hudson won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress and gained roles in several other hit movies including The Secret Life of Bees and Winnie Mandela’s biopic, Winnie. She also won a Grammy for her gold-selling debut self-titled album in 2008. In 2013 the distinguished soul-singer is set to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Hudson released her third studio album JHUD in 2014, and his since made her way onto Broadway with The Color Purple and her upcoming role in Hairspray Live!
