Ruben Studdard

Singer Ruben Studdard is the Grammy-nominated singer who wowed judges and voters as the winner of the second season of American Idol. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Studdard famously promoted the 205 area code during the Idol tapings and won the contest to runner-up Clay Aiken by a slim margin. His silky voice and hefty frame earned him the name the "Velvet Teddy Bear.” Since winning Idol, he has gone on to release five solo albums, including the 2004 gospel LP I Need an Angel. His latest project, Letters from Birmingham, hit stores in 2012.
