Shabba Ranks

Jamaican DJ/Toaster

Born Rexton Rawlston Fernando Gordon, Shabba Ranks was the most popular dancehall toaster during his heyday in the early nineties. With such popular hit singles as “Mr. Loverman,” “Ting-a-Ling,” “Housecall” and “Trailor Load of Girls” Ranks took his reggae hip hop hybrid sound and helped it explode onto the mainstream pop scene. He duetted with artists like Maxi Priest, Johnny Gill and KRS-One and his Epic debut album, As Raw As Ever won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album. Ranks is the first dancehall artist to achieve that accolade.
