In 1993, Stuart Scott joined ESPN and changed the very definition of what it could mean to be a sports broadcaster. As co-anchor of SportsCenter, Scott brought a personality — and hip hop-influenced vocabulary — to the network that won him fans worldwide. Scott, who grew up in North Carolina and played college football, covered high-profile sporting events during the NBA and NFL sporting seasons and brought catchphrases and one-liners like, “Boo-Yah,” “As cool as the other side of the pillow” and “Holla at a playa when you see him in the street!” to ESPN. Between 2007 and 2013, Scott was diagnosed with appendix cancer three times, and eventually lost his battle with the disease on January 4, 2015. (Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images)
