Ironically, the heavenly sound of this young chanteuse’s voice comes from a life of survival. Before achieving stardom, the Bronx-born singer (who is one of 10 children) and her family lived in their van for a number of years before she caught a break on Live At the Apollo at the age of nine. A few years after winning on Star Search, Evans landed her first acting role, playing Blair Underwood’s daughter on Law and Order SVU. Small roles on CBS’s The District and Tyler Perry’s film Diary of a Mad Black Woman soon followed. In 2008, after signing to Columbia, Evans released her self-titled debut album. And, in 2010, she released the lead single, “I’ll Be There,” from her second studio album, Perfect Imperfection.
