Lil Jon

Jonathan Smith (aka Lil Jon) is an Atlanta-based hip hop producer and artist. Before he crafted the call-and-response sounds of his group, Lil Jon and the East Side Boyz, he was the sound technician and ambassador of crunk music, a type of party rap with high-energy beats and rhythmic chants. While he produced popular crunk records for Ying Yang Twins, Petey Pablo and Young Buck, his most notable hit was Usher’s 2004 Confessions single, “Yeah.” Jon also coined the catchphrase “WHAAAAT!,” which was famously spoofed in a skit on Chapelle’s Show.
